Gillian Higgins of Horses Inside Out and renowned mural and equestrian artist Jenny Bell have combined forces to offer a unique 2-day horse drawing and life painting workshop at Wavendon Grange, Leicestershire.


Jenny BellWorkshop Overview:
Using live horses and by sharing slow motion videos of how horses move, Gillian will share her knowledge of anatomy and physiology and Jenny, with her experience and eye for shape and detail, will help you learn how to observe, draw and paint horses.


Who is this workshop aimed at?
This workshop is of interest to aspiring and professional artists wishing to improve their technique, understanding and ability to draw and paint horses, as well as those just wanting to ‘have a go’!


Workshop Outline:
Day 1
09:15 - Arrive and Coffee
09:30 - Welcome to Wavendon Grange
10:00 - How to Draw Horses. Jenny will give a talk demonstrating how to observe and draw horses.
11.30 - Coffee Break and Introduction to Live Horses.
11:45 - Painting from Life - Lecture demonstration and practical session
13:00 - Light Lunch
13:30 - Understanding the Horse, Form and Function using slow motion film of movement
14:00 - Drawing and Painting Practical Session using live horse
15:30 - Tea Break
15:50 - Practical Continued
17:00 - End of First Day

Please bring:

• Your own favourite painting materials and portable/field easel* (if you have them).
• Pencils and drawing pads/paper
• Suitable clothing and footwear for working outside.

* We have a limited number of easels available.
**We will supply a limited range of painting and drawing materials but if you prefer your own, please bring them.

Extra art materials, ‘How to draw horses’ books, and ‘Horses Inside Out’ books and DVDs, can be bought from Jenny and Gillian.

More about Gillian Higgins: Gillian is an equine anatomist, biomechanist, BHS Senior Coach, professional Sports and Remedial Therapist and author with a first class honours degree in Equine Science and Business Management. Gillian founded Horses Inside Out in 2006 and she is well known for her anatomical painting on live horses, which she uses for her teaching.
