Gillian Higgins BSc (Hons) First Class,BHS Senior Coach, Dip (RM) MSM, ITEC(equine), MCAM, MRAC, MESMA, MIAS, METAA, MRAMP.

Gillian HigginsGillian is an equine anatomist, biomechanist, BHS Senior Coach, professional Sports and Remedial Therapist and author with a first class honours degree in Equine Science and Business Management. Gillian is passionate about horses and anatomy and sharing all she knows for the good of the horse. She specialises in assessing posture and movement, devising exercises for improving performance and educating horse owners. She is well known for her anatomical painting on live horses which she uses for her teaching.Gillian Higgins

 

Gillian has ridden and competed up to Advanced level British Eventing. Noteable events include: winning and best rider under 25 rider at Gatcombe in 2007, representing GB at Necarne CCI** in 2004. Ridden Team Chasing, British Dressage and British Showjumping. Riding for Great Britain at the Student Rider’s Nations Cup in Austria 2004 and Canada 2006 where she achieved Individual Gold for dressage. Gillian currently owns 2 horses including the legend Freddie Fox and Artistic Flair, a youngster which she has started and is beginning to event.

With a bubbly, engaging presentation style, a deep knowledge, a passion for anatomy and biomechanics and with the welfare and comfort of the horse in mind, she gives lectures all over the world to riders, therapists, saddlers, farriers, vet schools, artists in fact anyone keen to learn more about horse anatomy or biomechanics or who is looking to ride and train succesfully in harmony.

Posture and PerformancePublications:

Gillian has written several popular books and DVDs. These are included in many university and other training course book lists. They have been translated into 14 differenct languages. There are more books in the pipeline. She aldo writes regularly for equestrian magazines (see published articles here).

As well as her own books Gillian is writing the anatomy chapters for the new Stage 2, Stage 3 and Stage 4 British Horse Society exam guide books.

 

Therapy:Horse Therapy

As well as the conventionals training, Gillian has studied Equine Therapies in America, France, Germany and Sweden and is committed to giving our equine partners the best possible levels of care and consideration. Gillian works mostly with sport horses from pleasure horses through to compeition horses at Olympic level. Gillian has worked with Bettina Hoy and regularly attends Dr Bechtolshiemers yard.

Gillian HigginsGillian is continually updating her knowlege and qualifications, she regularly attends courses in all her fields of interest. She works closely with Vets and regularly attends veterinary seminars and conferences. Gillian has represented the BHS in Sweden as part of the Leonardo Exchange programme designed to share knowledge with our European Counterparts. This has given her valuable insight into alternative methods of training and treatments, the best of which she incorporates into her own practices.

Gillian is also a member of the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP), Equine Sports Massage Assocation (ESMA), the British Horse Socitey (BHS) and the Society of Equestrian Artists (SEA).

As well as painting on horses, for which Gillian is renowned, She has also painted a number of large models for companies and charities so far raising £11K.

Gillian also produces quirky equine anatomical drawings and prints perfect as learning tools or to decorate your centre or home.

Shirley will be the first point of contact if you are considering arranging a Horses Inside Out Demonstration.

Whether you are a club, college, equestrian centre, or individual, she will help you decide on the best demonstration for your requirements and ensure everything is in place to make your demonstration a success.

All our demonstrations are unique and are tailor made to suit your circumstances. Shirley will go through all aspects of arranging your demonstration, assist with marketing and generally be there to provide support and answer any questions you may have.

David

David is the technical arm of the organisation. David manages the website, mailing list and online shop.

David is also the official Horses Inside Out Camera Man and has collected the majority of the material for Gillian's video-based talks and DVDs.

At the demonstrations David looks after the audio visual equipment, and makes sure everything runs smoothly on the day.

Freddie Fox

Freddie is a 16.2h twenty one year old ex-intermediate event horse. He has a wonderful character, is very inquisitive and loves to be the centre of attention at demonstrations. He is one of the main models in Gillian's books and DVDs. He has now retired from competition and is enjoying hacking.

Artistic Flair

Artistic Flair is a 17hh six year old Irish Sports Horse. Arty is newest member of the team having joined us in July 2015. Currently he is doing groundwork, pilates, gymnastic polework and exercises to help him develop in preparation for his future work. Gillian is planning to start eventing Arty this season and train him as a Horses Inside Out model and demonstration horse. We are all very excited about his development and progress.
